"Try not. Do, or do not. There is no try." ~Yoda
I love t̶r̶y̶i̶n̶g̶ doing new things. The more adventurous, the better. So, starting my own business has always been on my to-do list. I knew I'd have to face my fears and I anticipated some challenges in the process. But, something unexpected happened when I started my business.
Facing My Fears, First
The more new things you try, the more you realize rewards. I've learned this by doing. Satisfaction starts to replace fear. I recently heard someone say, "F.E.A.R. is False Evidence Appearing Real." More wisdom from this source in a future post.
Fear often makes us delay our plans or scrap them altogether. It's important to realize that it's OK not to have all the answers when you're trying something new. You don't have to know everything. You just have to know enough to get started.
So Here's the Thing...
As I feel my way through the dark of starting my own business, it helps to know I am not alone. I've found an unexpected ally in other creative professionals and independent public relations practitioners, like Brad Marley. Brad recently founded Yelram Media in the Detroit area, where he built a career helping auto and tech companies tell their stories. At the helm of his own business, he's authoring a weekly newsletter that includes Q&A other professional communicators. You can read his Oct. 28 issue featuring yours truly and subscribe for more (you'll want to) by clicking here.
What's New With You?
Do you have something new on your to-do list for 2019? I'd love to hear from you, whether you're pursuing a new line of business or starting a new adventure. Here's to doing new things!
